Greely Expedition: Day 56

Day 56: Wednesday, August 31st, 1881

Fair weather. Sgts. Ralston and Luis returned; they report having made a cache of their provisions on the south side of St. Patrick’s Bay, and also report Dr. Pavy and Rice, well on their way to launch in bay. This afternoon all hands turned out to have the whale boat over the ice to the open water at Dutch Island. This was accomplished after a good deal of effort, provisions were also taken to the same point, preparing to a start on the morrow of a party for Cape Buchey in the whale boat to make a supply station, and examine the Robeson Channel northward.
