Greely Expedition: Day 45

Day 45: Saturday, August 20th, 1881

Weather cold with snow. The Proteus still in sight, and her crew appear to be busily employed getting ballast on board. Work on the house was continued until 10pm. Every one who can drive a nail or use a saw is pressed into service as a skilled carpenter, the others of the party and the number is very small serve as laborers and carry lumber and nails to those on the house. We nearly finished the roof today.
