Signal Corps Time Capsule Ceremony

When the U.S. Army Signal Corps celebrated its centennial in 1960, Fort Monmouth had long been known as the “Home of the Signal Corps.”

The centennial celebration included the burial of the Signal Corps time capsule here at Russel Hall on September 16. The capsule is to be opened on June 21, 2060, the 200th birthday of the Corps.

As we all know, Fort Monmouth will not be open in 2060… and so on June 21, 2010, the Army will disinter the capsule to send it for safekeeping to Fort Gordon, Georgia, which supplanted Fort Monmouth as the “Home of the Signal Corps” some decades ago.

Stay tuned for a Monmouth Message article about this historic event!
